Before emailing

Including the following details can make an issue easier to diagnose:

  • Your ChronoTally version and build number, if available.
  • Your iPhone model and iOS version.
  • The steps that led to the problem and what you expected.
  • A screenshot, if it does not reveal sensitive information.
Protect your data: Do not attach a ChronoTally backup or include sensitive tally names or timestamps unless it is necessary and you are comfortable sharing them.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my ChronoTally data stored?

Tallies and timestamped entries are stored locally in ChronoTally’s private app storage on your iPhone. ChronoTally does not provide automatic cloud sync or send this data to the publisher.

Apple may include app data in an iCloud or computer device backup depending on your iOS backup settings.

How do I create a complete backup?
  1. Open the My Tallies screen.
  2. Open the Data menu in the toolbar.
  3. Choose Share Full Backup.
  4. Save the JSON file somewhere you control, such as Files.

The backup includes every tally and timestamped entry.

How do I restore a backup?
  1. Open My Tallies and then the Data menu.
  2. Choose Restore from Backup.
  3. Select a ChronoTally JSON backup.
  4. Review the file summary and choose Merge or Replace.

Merge adds or updates records from the backup while keeping unrelated current data. Replace permanently removes current tallies and entries, then restores exactly what is in the backup.

How do I export one tally as a spreadsheet?
  1. Open the tally.
  2. Open the More menu.
  3. Choose Share Entries as CSV.
  4. Select where to save or send the file.

The CSV contains the tally name, entry identifiers, timestamps, and time-zone context.

How do I move my data to a new iPhone?

Before changing devices, create a full JSON backup and save it somewhere accessible from the new iPhone. Install ChronoTally on the new device, then use Restore from Backup. Keep the backup until you have confirmed the restore.

How do I delete a tally and its history?

On My Tallies, swipe left on the tally, choose Delete Tally, and confirm. This permanently removes that tally and all of its timestamped entries from the app’s active local data.

Previously exported files and copies in device backups must be deleted separately.

What should I do before reinstalling the app?

Create and verify a full JSON backup first. Uninstalling the app removes its active local data, and the publisher cannot recover that data for you.

Basic troubleshooting

  1. Create a full backup if the app is still accessible.
  2. Close and reopen ChronoTally.
  3. Restart your iPhone.
  4. Install available ChronoTally and iOS updates.
  5. If the problem continues, email support with the details listed above.
